Coaching beyond four walls

Walking and Talking: coaching beyond four walls

Walking and talking sessions combine CBT-informed coaching with the calming benefits of spending time in nature. Rather than sitting indoors, we'll meet in a suitable outdoor location and walk at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

Why walking is an important part of CBT coaching

A walking CBT coaching session involves exploring your thoughts, behaviours and goals, and gives you the chance to practise CBT techniques outside. Anxiety and stress can leave many people feeling stuck, and it is often their natural instinct to avoid situations. Walking can introduce behavioural change while reflecting, helping you develop skills you can use independently and giving you time to think, reflect and walk.

  • Reduce stress and tension
  • Improve mood
  • Help clear a busy mind
  • Encourage fresh perspectives
  • Support confidence and resilience
  • Leave you feeling refreshed as well as emotionally supported

What to expect

Relaxed, informal and centred around your goals

We'll walk at a pace that suits you, taking breaks whenever needed. During our time together we'll use practical CBT coaching techniques to help you better understand your thoughts, emotions and behaviours, while working towards meaningful, achievable change.

No pressure to keep moving

There is no pressure to keep walking if you need to pause, we can stop at a bench or quiet area whenever it feels right.

Who is it for?

Walking and talking sessions may be suitable if you:

  • Feel more comfortable outdoors than in a traditional setting
  • Enjoy being in nature
  • Find it easier to talk while moving
  • Want practical strategies to improve your wellbeing
  • Are looking for a gentle, relaxed coaching experience

A few things to know

Safety and comfort come first

We'll agree on a suitable meeting location before your session, and you'll be responsible for wearing appropriate clothing and footwear for the weather and terrain.

Confidentiality in public spaces

As with all coaching sessions, confidentiality will be respected as much as possible. However, because we are in a public space, there is a small possibility that we may pass other people. If this happens, we can simply pause the conversation or change the subject until we have more privacy.

Is walking and talking right for you?

Not everyone enjoys sitting in an office or on a video call. If you feel your best when you're outdoors, walking and talking coaching could offer a different way to explore your challenges while benefiting from fresh air, gentle movement and nature.

If you're unsure whether it's the right fit, you're welcome to book a free initial consultation where we can discuss your needs and decide together which type of session would suit you best.
